Common Courses Announcement

Author: yasar.gultekin | Date: November 26, 2025

Dear Students, Welcome to our university.

Turkish Language, Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, and Foreign Language courses, which are mandatory in every department of all universities in Turkey, along with Occupational Health and Safety courses, which are mandatory in some departments, are offered in two different ways at the Vocational Schools and Faculties of our university.

Our students can either take these courses by attending classes in a classroom setting on Saturdays or through the distance education method via the internet. During the course registration week, when registering for courses, the system will ask students to choose either Face-to-Face or UZEM (Distance Education) for Turkish Language, Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, Foreign Language (the option will only be offered to Vocational School and State Conservatory students), and Occupational Health and Safety courses.

Note: Faculty of Education students will take these courses Face-to-Face, and the system will not offer an option. In Faculties with 4 or more years of study, Foreign Language courses will be taken Face-to-Face, so students will not be offered an option for the Foreign Language course only.

You need to pay attention to the following points when choosing these courses as Face-to-Face or UZEM.

A- Students Choosing the Face-to-Face Option: Attendance to the courses is mandatory.

Classes will be held in a classroom setting in the Faculty of Medicine lecture halls on Saturdays.

B- Students Choosing Common Courses as UZEM: The courses will only be held online, and attendance is not mandatory.

Courses will be followed on the course portal at eders.omu.edu.tr. Please follow the website of UZEM (Distance Education Center) (uzem.omu.edu.tr) regarding this.

Students who choose UZEM for their courses will pay 200 TL per course per semester.

Students of the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Law will pay 400 TL per course because they register for these courses annually.

Students who choose UZEM for their courses will send their course registrations for advisor approval and pay the UZEM fees on a later specified date. Students will be able to deposit their course fees using their student numbers via ZİRAAT BANK ATM and Internet Banking.

When course selections are finalized and classes are confirmed, your password to enter the UZEM system will be as follows:

Username: Your student number

Password: The first 6 digits of your Turkish ID (TC) number + The first 3 letters of your name in capital letters.

For example, the password for a student named AHMET whose TC number is 12345678900 will be in the form of 123456AHM.

Important Notes

The exam schedule will be announced in your schools, on department notice boards, and at uzem.omu.edu.tr.

Students who wish to be exempt from the English course must take and successfully pass the Foreign Language Exemption Exam to be held on September 24, 2025.
